VOCATIONAL COMPUTER TRAINING

We offer basic computer classes to youth who have never interacted with a computer before. The training began with an introduction to the fundamentals: explaining the computer’s components, operating system basics, and how to use a mouse and keyboard. Students also learn how to use resources on the Internet: email, Microsoft Office, Excel, productivity, social networking programs, and how to manage computer security and privacy. We also provide teaching on life skills, job skills, health information, communication opportunities and entrepreneurship.

These programs provide an opportunity for the youth to learn and embrace technology skills, to create innovative solutions to poverty, unemployment and other social-economic development challenges and better employment opportunities. We also believe that this will facilitate improved grades of the students.

Only 3% of the population is computer literate. One study in East Uganda found only 10 out of 150 teachers knew how to turn on and use a computer.
